The Twelve Tribes
In the wilderness each tribe camped under its own banner. The Midrash tells that every banner was dyed the colour of the tribe's stone on the High Priest's breastplate, and carried its emblem: the lion for Judah, the wolf for Benjamin, the ship for Zebulun. Each is painted here on its banner's colour.
