Furniture from the family woods
David Stine's furniture begins as trees on land his family has looked after for four generations. He was born and raised there, on a farm where his grandfather and uncles kept dairy cows and every day meant work with the hands — mending fences, harvesting corn, fixing tractors, chopping firewood. His grandfather and father taught him woodworking, first through repairs, then by building tables, cabinets, bookcases and beds, and he fell in love with turning something as plain as a piece of wood into something useful and beautiful.
Today he is the fourth generation to steward the family's 500 wooded acres in Illinois, and those woods are his lumberyard: he grows, harvests and mills the timber himself. The workshop uses only sustainably harvested American hardwoods from that land — no imports, no veneers, no engineered boards or laminates. Solid wood, worked by hand.
Each piece is made in close collaboration with the person who commissions it, which is why no two are alike. After nearly three decades, the award-winning workshop serves both the design trade — architects, designers and hospitality projects — and private clients directly.
