The problem01

What work will AI leave us?
The work of the hands.

  • 60% of jobs in advanced economies are exposed to AI, mostly desk work.
  • Only 22% of Americans say a four-year degree is worth it if it means taking loans.
  • Masters are retiring with no one to hand the bench to.

How it works02

A path, not a degree. A place in the network at the end.

Apply once, and Oholiav matches you to a master in your craft and city. You learn on real commissions, build a portfolio and a rating that travel with you, and graduate as a partner with your own clients.

An example03

One apprentice's year, from first sweep to first commission.

Matched to a bronze foundry in Pittsburgh. Month one: the floor, the sprues, the kiln. Month six: a first pour beside the master. Month twelve: eight commissions delivered under the master's name, and a journeyman's rating of her own.

Illustrative path, not a real apprentice.

Her first commissionA set of cast bronze door pulls, finished by hand and signed with her master's mark.
For masters04

Your craft, carried forward.

  • Take on an apprentice for the work your studio already has.
  • Renaissance sends commissions for the two of you and handles the client.
  • Your name stays on the work, and your method outlives you.
The difference05

The student today, and the apprentice.

Four years of lectures and loans for work AI is learning to do, against four years at a bench, paid in skill, with a portfolio, a rating and a place in the network at the end.

FAQ06

Frequently asked questions.

Who can apply?

Anyone, at any age: school leavers, career changers, people who've always made things on the side. We read every application ourselves.

Do I need experience?

No. Tell us what you've made, if anything, and which craft pulls at you. Masters are looking for patience and hands, not a portfolio.

Is it paid, and does it cost anything?

Placeholder: the pay and fee model for apprentices is still being set. Applying is free.

Which crafts can I learn?

Metal and lighting, wood and furniture, ceramics, glass, textiles and rugs, upholstery, jewellery, stone, and digital fabrication. Choose one and we'll find the master.

Where does it happen?

In a master's studio near you. We're opening city by city; tell us yours when you apply.

Why is it called Oholiav?

Oholiav came from Dan, the humblest of the tribes, and stood beside Bezalel, the master who built the Tabernacle. “He put it in his heart to teach, both him and Oholiav” (Exodus 35:34). Your past doesn't define you; you can be the beginning of a lineage.
